The Foundation for Science and Technology’s Loja do Cientista has been in operation since 18 March 2002 in a space adjacent to the Foundation’s headquarters on Av. D. Carlos I. It is open to the public weekdays between the hours of 10 am and 5 pm.
The Loja do Cientista is a modern space dedicated to providing a service to the public where scientists, young researchers, post-graduate students and the general public can take care of matters relating to activities funded by the FCT in a place specifically designed for this purpose and one which is accessible to individuals with motor disabilities.
Most people who come to the FCT to deal with matters relating to the foundation’s activities are grant recipients or applicants for grants, as there are currently around 7000 grants underway and each year another 5000 applications are submitted. The Loja do Cientista also responds on a daily basis to requests for assistance from researchers involved in projects, research units and other activities funded by the FCT such as the Scientific Community Support Fund.
This space also serves as a venue from time to time for activities of interest to the scientific community, such as book launchings, events to disseminate scientific work and debates on specific topics.
