R&D Institutions

Evaluations

The current R&D unit evaluation system was defined in 1996 and its regulations have suffered small changes up to the current 2007 version.

The evaluation system is based upon periodic assessments, carried on by international experts, of reports and activity plans including direct contacts with researchers and their institutions during visits to all units. From this evaluation exercise follows the award of a qualitative grade, which determines the volume of plurianual funding to be received up to the next evaluation.

Current evaluation concerning Associate Laboratories (2008)

This evaluation exercise concerns the 2003-2007 period.

The Unit Evaluation Coordinator 2008 is Prof. Claudio Sunkel.

The Associate Laboratories evaluation form is available.

Current evaluation of all units except Associate Laboratories (2007)

This evaluation exercise concerns the 2003-2006 period.

The Unit Evaluation Coordinator 2007 is Prof. Claudio Sunkel.

The announcement describes in detail the different steps of the evaluation process, namely:

  • Unit registration with FCT (concluded)
  • Delivery of Activity Report (concluded)
  • Report evaluation, visits and unit global grade (concluded)
  • Public announcement of results (complete)

The two preliminary evaluation steps, registration and report delivery, were conducted through a dedicated online portal where other information, such as answers to frequent questions concerning report submission and panel visits to units, is available.

The list of panel members and visit periods are available as well as criteria to be used.

FCT has started the process of publication of the results of the evaluation process on December 10, 2008 with the notification of each Unit President. On December 17 2008 the resuts were made public through a presentation document.
